Dec 4-15: Hawaii Vacation, Part 2

Kauai, Days 6-11

Arriving to our last port of call
The last two days of the cruise we were to be docked in Kauai and then the ship would leave to go back to Honolulu.  However, our good friends, Christine and JJ, were vacationing at their friend's house on Kauai. They invited us to spend a week with them at this beautiful home on the ocean.  So on the second day in port, we left the ship and stayed a week in Kauai.

We docked in Kauai and immediately departed the ship to see Christine and JJ.  They picked us up on the dock and took us on a tour to the Menehune Fish pond and then to Waimea Canyon.

According to legend, one thanks the Menehune's for bring good fortune. We thanked them for the wonderful trip we were having and for our good friends.

Whenever anything good would happen on our trip, we would again thank the Menehune's.

Christine and Linda spent much time taking pictures.
JJ and Barb waited very patiently.

This viewpoint is usually fogged over to the extent that you cannot see the ocean.  In fact, this is the first time that Christine and JJ have been able to see the ocean from here and they have been here many times over the last several years.
 We thanked the Menehune's

We spent the next 7 days touring the island from the north shore to the south shore and back to Lihue where we lived.  Each day was a different adventure with wonderful views and magnificent scenery.
The chickens are wild and are every where you go.  Their colors are glorious.

The Nene goose only lives on Maui and Kauai.
There are none on the mainland.
They are considered an endangered species.

JJ and Barb amazed by the sights.  "Look, look, look at that!"

A few more pictures from our outings, beautiful scenery, photographing, and just having fun.

Chickens roamed freely all over the island.

Since we had such a wonderful time snorkeling in Kona, we decided to try it again.  Unfortunately, the waves were very rough due to a thunder and lightnening storm the night before.  It was not as relaxing as the first time, but we know that we will want to snorkel again.

Of course, we had to go to a Laua and a pig roast.

Our Lodging.......As guests of Christine and JJ, we were able to experience the wonderful home and grounds of their friends for whom they were cat sitting.  They stayed in the big house and we stayed in the guest house.  The landscaping on the grounds was as magnificient as a botanical garden.

On our last day, Christine & JJ say goodbye and safe travels.

And so after 6 days on a cruise ship and 6 days living on Kauai, we said good bye to the lush vegetation and beautiful scenery of Hawaii and headed back to the desert.

We had a wonderful time and thank the Menehune's for the wonderful weather and the opportunity to spend time on their Hawaiian Islands.
We will return.
