Seaside, OR--Cape Disappointment
Today was our first full day in Seaside. Forecast for today and the next 4 days is rain. We decided to venture out into the rain and see whatever sights we could see. We headed north to Astoria, crossed the bridge over the Columbia River into Washington. We drove up Long Beach Peninsula between Willapa Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The peninsula is about 28 miles long. We made it about 15 miles to Ilwaca. Along the way, we stopped in several of the small communities fishing ports and observed the activity. We also stopped for sights of the ocean. As you can see from the photos below, we did not get to see much of the ocean.
In Ilwaca we exited Highway 101 and drove into Cape Disappointment State Park. That was probably the the best views of the water since it is high on a bluff. We also hiked about 1/2 mile to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse. Since it was raining , I left my big camera in the car and took photos with my phone.
On the way back to Seaside, we stopped at Astoria and drove around there for a bit. We discovered there is much to see there and will probably return another day before we leave.
Our love to all of you,
Barb and Linda

This trip of yours really made me homesick. I'm sorry it was so rainy for you as it is beautiful in the sun. I have always loved longbeach, WA.
