Oct 9: Egrets in the Mohave Desert

We thought at first that we were seeing a mirage in the Mohave Desert.  We were on our way to Needles, CA for a few casino days.

We had stopped at a gas station in the middle of the desert, absolutely nothing there except sand, brush, rundown houses and cars, no water, no lake, no reservoir.

To our amazement, a flock of white egrets flew overhead and landed in a tree.  We watched them resting there.
One or two of them would leave the tree and circle the area as though on guard.

It was a beautiful sight.
